Dr. David Stephens, DABVP
Graduated from Texas A&M University in 1990, which was followed by a one-year internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. Upon completion of a surgery residency at Oklahoma State University in 1994, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Equine) in 1995. Subsequently, he was a staff surgeon at Equine Veterinary Associates in Conroe, Texas for 1 year, and then partnered with Dr. Scott Weems to establish Weems and Stephens Equine Hospital in 1997.
Dr. Cole Sciba, DVM
Graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. He came to work at Weems and Stephens Equine Hospital that same year. In 2002, he became partner. His clinical interests are reproduction, embryo transfers, lameness and ultrasound.
Dr. Kevin Claunch, DVM, DACVS
Graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. He completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky in 2011 followed by a surgical residency at the University of Georgia 2011-2014. He joined Weems & Stephens in 2014. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2015. Clinical interests include all aspects of equine surgery including orthopedic, upper airway, and laparoscopic surgery as well as lameness.
Dr. Pat Garrett, DVM
Dr. Pat was born and raised in Montgomery, AL. He grew up the son of a cattle buyer so he spent the majority of his youth in the alleys of sale barns and order buying pens in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. He competed in steer wrestling and team roping in high school and continued into college at Mississippi State University. There he earned his B.S. in Animal Science and went on to earn his DVM in 2000. After veterinary school, he practiced in Texas, Alabama, and Florida. He has been in the Pilot Point, TX area since 2006. His main areas of interest are equine reproduction and sports medicine. He still enjoys team roping, and has also shown some in the reining. He raises some reining horses as well as beef cattle.
Dr. Bailey Westin, DVM
Dr. Bailey Westin was born and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She completed her education at the University of California, Davis where she earned her B.S. in Animal Science with equine emphasis in 2018 and later her DVM from the School of Veterinary Medicine in 2022. Upon graduation, she headed east to Aubrey, TX where she completed an internship here at Weems and Stephens Equine Hospital before officially joining our team as an associate veterinarian. Her clinical interests lie equally in all aspects of equine medicine. Outside of the clinic you’ll find her somewhere outdoors, out for a good bite to eat, or traveling with every opportunity to visit family and friends up north in Montana and Idaho.
Dr. Cari Chisholm, DVM
Dr. Cari Chisholm was born and raised in Vossburg, MS. She grew up on a farm where her love for cattle and horses started at an early age. She received her B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi, followed by her M.S. from Mississippi State University. She graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Upon graduation, she moved to Nocona, Tx where she was a large animal associate veterinarian focusing on beef cattle and equine. After a year of practice, she returned to Mississippi State to complete a theriogenology residency 2019-2021. After completion of her residency, she joined Weems and Stephens in 2021. Clinical interests include all aspects of equine reproduction. Outside of work, she enjoys hunting, fishing, and working cows horseback.
Dr. Lisa Splawn, DVM
Received a B.S. from the University of Findlay in equestrian studies. Upon graduation she worked as an anesthesia technician in an equine referal hospital practice in Pittsburgh, PA. From there, she attended veterinary school at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Upon graduation Lisa completed a reproductive internship at 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, TX and joined the team at Weems and Stephens Equine Hospital in 2002. Her interests include podiatry and ophthalmology.
Dr. Filipe Stancof, DVM
Graduated from Anhembi Morumbi University in 2007, Sao Paulo, Brazil. He came to work at Weems and Stephens as a veterinary assistant in 2008. From 2012 to 2016 he held a practice in his home country before deciding to come back and pursue a career in United States. He rejoined the staff at Weems and Stephens in 2017 and became licensed in the USA. Dr. Stancof’s main areas of interest are Reproduction and Sports Medicine. Outside work, he enjoys the outdoors, fishing and exploring new places. He and his brother breed racing quarter horses in Brazil, another one of his passions. Dr. Stancof speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish.
Dr. Melanie Ramirez, DVM
Dr. Melanie Ramirez graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, and completed an internship at Texas Equine Hospital in Bryan, TX. She attended the Chi Institute in Reddick, FL to learn veterinary acupuncture and traditional Chinese veterinary medicine and completed the curriculum in 2021. Dr. Ramirez joined the team at WSEH in 2018. Her professional interests are neonatology, internal medicine, and alternative/complementary medicine. When she is not taking care of horses, she loves being with her husband and two children.
